A brave effort was not good enough to advance to the semi-finals of the 2020 championship. Deel Rovers started well with three points before a well-taken goal from Paul O’Neill shock off early Garnish nerves. By the first water-break, Garnish were 3 points up thanks to a long-range effort from Hugh Sounish and two frees from Sean Terry. In the second quarter the teams traded scores. Brian Terry chipped to an excellent charge forward from Darragh Henshaw, from which Sean Terry duly pointed, giving Garnish a 4-point lead at half-time.
Things were looking rosy early in the second-half with Garnish enjoying a 1-08 to 0-05 lead. But the Deel Rovers challenge roared back to life a brilliant goal and by the water-break enjoyed a three-point lead. With four minutes left on the clock Darren Deery responded with a goal of his own. Sean Terry levelled in the red, bringing the match to extra-time. A black card for a needless foul swing the momentum back to Garnish. Yet, points from Rory O’Driscoll and Jerome O’Dwyer were insufficient for the ten minutes of numerical superiority. For the final 10 minutes, it was all Deel Rovers.
Final Score: Deel Rovers 2- 15 Garnish 2- 12.
