There is probably no family on the Béara peninsula that has not been served by St Joseph’s, the community hospital located at Derrymihin, Castletownbere since 1932. The hospital accommodates continuing care beds, respite, palliative care, and community support and was commended for its Trojan work during the Covid pandemic. Many of the wider Béara diaspora have strong ties to the hospital, which has a long history of caring the sick and elderly on the peninsula.
