Matthew O’Leary Skull and Bones – 220621

A lovely sunny mid-summer’s eve for UCC’s senior football team to play a game down the ‘Dyke. And great to see Garnish represented with Matthew O’Leary starting at corner-back. Matthew more than held his own against some quality forwards and his vintage tight marking did not go unnoticed.

Garnish v ‘Town 200621

Garnish saw off a strong Castletownbere team with a narrow league victory on 20th June. Town came with some big guns and tried every trick in the book to rattle Garnish from the start.

With players away or in midst of exams, there were first starts for Darragh Henshaw, Fintan JL, Paul O’Neill, Cian O’Neil and Darren Deery.  Brian Terry opened the scoring with an great long range effort followed by frees from Paul O’Neill and Fintan JL.  Despite a strong headwind ‘Town kept in touch and it wasn’t until Jerome O’Dwyer’s 12th minute goal that some daylight emerged.  A 2nd goal from Darren Deery gave Garnish a 4 point cushion at half time. Particularly pleasing in the second half is how Garnish managed the game, defending in numbers, retaining possession and working the ball into scoring range. Brian Terry controlled the last 10 minutes after Dylan Henshaw got the insurance score with a well taken goal just after the water break.

Garnish Ross Murphy, Matt O’Leary, Darragh Henshaw, Tommy O’Sullivan, Jack Andy, Rory O’Driscoll, Gary O’Sullivan, Eanna Murphy, Brian Terry, Fintan JL, Paul O’Neill, Hugh O’Sullivan, Jerome O’Dwyer, Darren Deery, Dylan Hendshaw.  Subs Used: Cian O’Neill , Brian Walsh, Dean Henshaw, Daniel Rue Jamie O’Driscoll

Garnish v Glengarriff 080621

Garnish and Glengarriff kicked off their league seasons with a tough encounter in Cahermore yesterday. With many first team regulars unavailable, it was a great opportunity to blood some youth … and they did not disappoint.

With Matthew O’Leary on man-marking duties, Tommy O’Sullivan had a strong display in the  other corner.  Dylan Henshaw and Jack Andy worked the wings extremely well, whilst Finbarr Sheehan showed signs of his potential at 14! Particular congratulations to Stephen Lane on making his debut for the team.
